According to a recent statistic, 45% of the US population has at least one chronic disease. Chronic diseases are ongoing, generally incurable illnesses such as heart disease, asthma, cancer, and diabetes.

In Exodus 15:26, God reveals himself as Jehovah Rapha, the Lord that heals. Healing is part of the very nature of God.   Rapha means to cure, heal, repair, mend, and restore health. We still believe that God can heal every disease! As we study the Gospels, we see Jesus healing everyone who came to him in faith.  He healed all kinds of sicknesses and diseases.

Healing is one of the benefits of the kingdom. Psalm 103:1-3 says, “Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all His benefits: who forgives all your iniquities, who heals all your diseases.”

When we have sickness or disease in our bodies, we want to get well. While modern medical science can offer solutions, sometimes it falls short and we need a miracle healing from God.

Since Jehovah Rapha means the God who heals, God is our doctor! He is actually the best doctor because he made us and knows everything about us.

Sometimes in our quest for a miracle, we get in our own way. In the Old Testament, a powerful army commander named Namaan had leprosy. He was a military man - someone who was used to giving orders and having them followed – a person who expected things to be done his way. His best skill in his secular job became his biggest roadblock to getting healed. His pride and reluctance to follow a simple request almost cost him his miracle healing.

Likewise, we can get in the way of our miracle healing as well. Yes God is fully capable of doing a miracle healing in any way He chooses. But we need to be obedient to whatever particular instruction He gives us to do even when we don’t fully understand it. It’s called putting our faith in God in action through obedience.

Jeremiah 30:17a says, “For I will restore health to you and heal you of your wounds, says the LORD.”
