A lot of negative things are going on in the world today, which could cause us to be fearful for our safety. But when we fully understand how God protects us, we won’t be afraid. Psalm 91 is a great passage of scripture to read when you need to be comforted by God’s protection.

To protect means to cover or shield from injury, damage, danger or destruction; to guard from attack, invasion, loss, or insult. We should be grateful that God protects us every day from dangers seen and unseen. While it’s easy to thank God for blessings we also need to thank Him for NOT experiencing calamities!

Psalms 91:1 says, “He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.” To dwell means to live continuously in a place.  God desires for us to be under His protection daily. The shadow is place of hiding from danger and the Almighty God has the power to protect us.

When we feel like our safety is being threatened, we can cry out to God in prayer. Prayer is just talking to God and it takes us to a place of God’s refuge as we cast our cares on Him. God’s protection gives us peace in the situation.

Psalm 91:11 says, “For He shall give His angels charge over you, to keep you in all your ways.” Angels are created beings that work in the spirit realm to do God’s will. We each have angels assigned to guard and protect us. We don’t pray to angels, we pray to God who will direct the angels on our behalf.

You can make it a habit to read Psalm 91 every day, especially during distressing times. It will assure you of God’s protection and give you greater peace.
